Negative news with your company - If you work with a company that is public, you may want to keep your eyes peeled on the financials. If your company is losing money, or the outlook doesn’t look too hot, you may be in trouble here as well. When the profits aren’t meeting expectations, they may have to result in layoffs.

Feel out of place – If nobody is talking to you, and you’re left off in the dark, it may be a sign that you’re a bad worker, and no one wants anything to do with you. You’ll want to make sure that you come forward, and see why no one wants to deal with you anymore. You’ll have nothing to lose here.
How do you feel you’re working? Closely evaluate your work efforts. How hard do you think you’re working? You’ll want to honestly compare yourself to the others around you. If you feel you’re not doing a good enough job it may be time to up your work efforts.
Is there a merger? A merger can be a big sign of massive layoffs ahead. Generally, when there is a merger, you’re going to find that the new guy is going to want to lay off some people that aren’t necessary.
