We all are part of a bank today and we all know that they are in it for the money. How do they afford those 40 story buildings and fancy cars? Well, the answer is fairly simple. From the interest on your mortgage to those pesky fees, the banks have to stay in business somehow.
Now, I know most of us today have came in contact with some sort of bank fee and did you know that you can get out of it if they charge you? These tips may sound fairly simple but they do work most of the time depending on your situation.
Call up the bank and ask
If you see any sort of fee pop up on your bank account, call up the bank and speak with a customer service representative. Explain your situation to them and ask them if they could kindly remove your bank fee. If you’re a good customer, you can usually get it waived. Keep in mind though, that most banks will only waive a fee once every 3-6 months. So, don’t count on them removing one each week.
Be friendly – not hostile
Picture yourself as a customer service representative. Are you going to help the one that is nice or are you going to help the one that is hostile on the phone? From my experience with customer service, I always tend to go above and beyond for the customer that is easy to work with. Remember people, if you’re nice, you get a lot further.
Have a reason why
If you continue to overdraft on your checking account, the bank is going to see this pattern and most likely, they won’t do anything about it. If you expect them to fix this each and every time, I think you’re going to be out of luck. The main point here is that you should have a reason on why you should get your fees removed. If you’ve only had an overdraft once in your entire history with the bank, the luck will be on your side that they will waive those fees.
Most banks want your business and when it comes down to getting fees waived, they will work with you. In the end, it never hurts to call up or show up in person. They will do everything in their own power to keep you as a customer.
