948659_card_security_2We all hear horror stories from people how they’re in a huge amount of debt because of credit cards, but really that’s not true.  Credit cards are a convenience, allow us to get nice rewards, and help us build our credit.  The only one that can rack up credit card debt is the user.  Before you knock credit cards, consider a few of these tips to help you use them wisely.  Once you do, you’ll see how great they can be!

Know your limits – First of all, you want to make sure you know what your credit limit is.  Once you know, be sure to never exceed this amount.

Fees – Find out if there are any fees with your credit card.  You want one that has no annual fee, and one that does charge you for a certain amount of transactions.

Interest rates – Always be aware of what your interest rates are.  For every dollar you don’t pay off, you’re adding more on to your total bill.  This can be dangerous if you don’t pay attention to your interest rates.

Keep track – Keep track of how much your spending by writing down everything you buy, along with the price.  Also, most credit cards have websites you can log in to on the Internet to help you keep track.

More than you make – Don’t ever spend more than you make.  This may sound obvious but really, how do you think people get into debt in the first place?  If you swipe your credit card for something that isn’t in your price range, where do you think you’re going to get this money to pay it back?

Full amount – You always want to pay the full amount of your total bill.  If you don’t, you will be charged interest.  Although, if you do pay the full amount, you will be paying what you should, how much you spent instead.

On time – Another thing to keep in mind is when your credit card bill is due.  You always want to make sure you pay on time, every single time!  If you do, you don’t have to worry about anything.

Using a credit card wisely really isn’t hard at all.  Once you get into the habit of your new responsibility, you’ll be on your way to a good start for life.  Get into the good habits now, and not worry about credit card debt piling up anytime soon.
