Flying is generally a part of every one’s life, and while some of us only do it every few years, some of us are constantly on the go through the great blue skies.  Now, the question today is, “How can I save money on a flight when I need to take one?”

Do your research online

The Internet is always going to be your friend when it comes time to do research.  Don’t go the old fashioned way, and call up 10 different airlines, because you’re going to be paying more to order over the phone.  Instead, do your homework online, and try websites like Priceline when buying your airline tickets.  This way, you’ll be able to get prices from just about any airline.

Try and buy direct

If you know what airline you want to fly with, try their website directly.  When you buy direct, you’re going to bypass all the booking fees, and whatever any other fees the third party is going to offer.  What I generally do with my research is explore the websites like Priceline, and I will then proceed to take the cheapest price there, and buy it direct, rather than through the site.

More comparison tools you can use

Besides the obvious like Priceline, which I mentioned above, try out a great website like Kayak.com.  I like this site because I’m able to see what months are going to be the cheapest.  I can sort month, by month, and it will return the price estimate for those particular days.  It’s a great way to do your research all in one place.

Trends will always change

If you find a great price on a plane ticket, buy it right away, because plane ticket prices change all the time.  For example, I wanted to fly back home for a while, and saw a great deal for $200 per ticket round trip.  I thought it was a great deal, but I thought I would buy the next morning.  Well, I woke up and those same tickets were now $230!  I could have saved $60 if I jumped on it quicker.

These are all great tips that you can take when you’re looking to save on your next flight.  Try some of these tips, and more to see how much you can truly save.
