Living Debt Free and Our Future
Today, debt is just a thing everyone has. It has somehow become OK to have debt, to owe money, to not pay with cash. Our grandparents would not have thought that was the way to live, yet we do, credit has somehow become our first option. Why is this? Why is it expected that you go to into debt? This has become a huge cultural thing and is detrimental to us all, not just socially, but economically. You’ll hear mentions upon mentions of “The Economic Downturn,” but our culture of debt has also made us unable to face the fact it isn’t big corporations that control the money in the country, if not the continent, it is the people, the middle-class, the one’s that should never operate beyond their means.
We Don’t Have to Fall into Those Patterns
With credit card companies sending pre-approved statements in the mail, and banks having the tenancy to give them out like candy, it may take a moment in any given situation to say “No.” It most definitely takes new habits. After all, who suffers, not the credit card companies, their margins on profits are high with 10% or 20% interest, and banks will take you to court. Really it takes a change in habits. At first it may mean not getting something now, but getting it later, but you will always pay less in the end, always.
Just Don’t Bolster the Culture of Credit
By using credit as a first option, by accepting an inevitability of debt, we say it is OK for companies to take our money from us, to push us into poor habits, and to consume more without producing. This just isn’t fair, it isn’t safe, and it most definitely isn’t right. Remember, debt doesn’t have to be in your future, just say “No.” Walk away and say “No.”
