Job searching tipsThe economy is bad and if you’re trying to fight debt at the same time and you just don’t see enough money rolling in, I’m going to give you a few tips that you can use in order to increase your chances of landing a job.  Remember this fact, even if 10% of the nation was unemployed, 90% of us have a job.  What odds do you want?

Use the Internet to your advantage – There are so many job hunting websites out there.  If you find yourself sticking to one website, start exploring more.  You should be checking at least 20 job websites and yes, they all are going to vary.  For example, if you’re looking for a retail job only, you may want to check a website like SnagAJob.

Look into the growing markets – Instead of looking at markets that are fading, look into the markets that are booming in your town.  No matter how bad an economy is, there are always going to be places that are hire especially those that are profitable.  Every state is different so make sure that you do your research to see what companies are hiring.

Look at your resume - If you find yourself applying for a million jobs and you’re not getting a call back, it may not be the economy but rather your resume.  Have someone look at it to see if there’s something wrong with it.  It never hurts to get a few people to look it over and give you advice.

Networking is powerful – Networking is the #1 way people find jobs in this world. Start asking all of your friends if they know of anyone hiring.  No matter who you know, it never hurts to ask because there may be a job opening that you didn’t know about.  Even if you start low, it doesn’t matter because you can always work your way up that career ladder.

Look at corporate websites – No matter where you live, I bet you that there are some big companies nearby.  One day, you should set aside a few hours and explore all the companies that are nearby.  What you want to do once you get a list is go the companies website to see if there are any job openings.  A lot of the times companies will post jobs only on their website and not third party sites like Monster, etc.

A job search can be tough but don’t let it get you down.  There are always thousands of jobs out there waiting for you.  You have to remain positive and treat job hunting like a job.  As long as you’re aggressive and you search every corner, you’ll find that job you’ve always wanted.
