How to save money on billsEvery person out there has some sort of bill to take care of on a monthly basis.  Well, now that I think of it, unless you’re six years old, you may not have to worry about it but if you’re reading this, you most likely will have some sort of bill.

When it comes down to saving on bills, there are many things you can do to either eliminate your bill one hundred percent or you can use techniques to cut your bill in half.  Here are a few tips that you can use in order to save money on your monthly bills.

Analyze every bill that you may have

The first thing that I would do is to look at every bill that you have.  If it’s an optional bill, you need to ask yourself if you need that particular service.  When I say an “optional bill”, I’m talking about cable bills, telephone bills, gym memberships and more.  These are bills that you don’t have to pay.

Cut back on services

When you look at your optional bills, you don’t have to cut them out completely.  Instead, look at each one individually and see if you can cut back.   Do you really need 500 cable channels?  How many do you watch?  Cut back on the movie channels.  Use this strategy for everything else like gym memberships, etc.

Pay your bills through your bank

Unless you’re banking with a bank stuck in the 80s, you should be paying your bills online.  There’s no reason that you should send a company a check in an envelope with a stamp you have to provide.  If you send out 10 bills a month at forty cents a stamp, you’re looking at $4-5 right there.  It doesn’t sound like a lot but when it comes to down to saving money, the little things do add up.

Shop around once in a while

Who said you’re stuck with Company A when it comes to your cable bill?  There may be other competitors in your area.  Give them a call and see what kind of rates they are offering.  If they are able to beat your current price, call up the place you’re with now and see if they will beat it.  99% of the time, the current place will most likely match or give you a great deal.  I would say you do this every 6 months or so.

Use these techniques every time you’re looking to save on your bills.  Every penny counts when you’re looking to cut back on things month to month.  You may be surprised at what you’re spending and what you don’t use month after month.
