A lot of us have health insurance that we’re paying on month to month. And for us that are self employed or don’t have company benefits we must pay the whole amount ourselves. If you’re looking for ways to get more for your dollar, continue reading below to see how you can do just that!
How to Get More From Your Health Care Dollar:
High deductible: First of all, if you rarely go to the doctor, try and get a high deductible plan. This can make your monthly payments and doctor visits much cheaper, but if something happens (knock on wood) you will have a higher deductible plan with a limit that you will never pay more.
Avoid Urgent care and ER: Avoid using emergency services as much as possible! These are much more expensive than your family doctor. Try to wait it out unless it’s really an emergency.
Review: Always make sure you review your bills carefully. If something doesn’t seem right be sure to call the number at the top of your bill and ask why it is the price it is. People make mistakes but we don’t want to have to pay for them!
Open an HSA: Opening up an HSA (Health Savings Account) is a great idea. You will have saved up money that gains interest over time and is tax-free. This can be used on all health visits.
Medical treatment: Make sure you know what the doctor is doing before they run tests and exams. If you feel they are unecessary let them know! These could be costly and they may not be aware of how much YOU have to pay for it.
Medication: Always ask if you can get free medication or samples. They will usually let you test run a couple to see if they work well with your body. Also, when you go to the pharmacy be sure to check the ad for the store sometimes you can get gift cards for getting your prescription filled there.
It is a good thing to be as frugal as possible. It helps us save money, get more for our money and spend less. So, if you’re looking for ways to get more from your health care dollar consider a few of these tips!
