How Can I Stop Bill Collectors to Stop Calling?
posted by FindSecuredCards.com
A long question but yet so many people that are in financial trouble have to experience it. While you think these people deserve the phone calls, some debt companies can be extreme when it comes to getting your money. In my opinion, I think a bill collector should only be able to contact you every few weeks rather than every day.
So, what happens when you have that pesky bill collector calling you every day? What can you do when they call? Is it legal? These are questions asked by many but I’ll give you some pointers on how you can get those bill collectors to stop calling you.
You have many rights
The first step you need to take is to simply ask them to stop calling you. Tell them that you would rather have them send you the collection notice in the mail rather than over the phone. Many good bill collecting companies will do this but the shady ones won’t.
Get everything in writing
When you ask the bill collection agency to ask for everything in writing, send them a letter stating this. Make sure it’s certified and have them send it back to you. You want them to acknowledge that you mean business and they aren’t dealing with someone that doesn’t have a brain. Keep sending a letter until they sign and return it.
Establish a payment agreement
Yes, you owe this company money and it’s understandable that they are calling. Instead of being hostile, it’s important that you reach out a payment deal with them. Whether you pay them x amount each week, month, etc. You want to show them that you are willing to pay them all the debts that you owe.
Speak with a lawyer
I don’t want to give out too much advice when it comes to law but if you feel that they are breaking it, you’ll want to contact a lawyer to see what he/she feels. Over the years, many bill collection agencies have gotten into trouble with the law. They have been sued, they’ve lost their licenses and other things. It never hurts to get legal advice.
Bill collectors will always be around and yes, if you pay your bills off, you won’t have this problem. Show them that you’re willing to work with them. If you can work them and give them the money they need, you won’t have anymore phone calls coming your way.
