Although there are some helpful ways to fix your situation, there are also a few strategies to avoid when in debt.
Friends and family – You never want to go to your friends and family. You may ask for their emotional support, but don’t ever ask for money. They are your friends for a reason, and should not be your loan or bank account.
Paying credit card minimum – After you pay that minimum payment for your credit card, you may feel some relief, but really, you’re just racking up more money on them through interest rates. Try to pay as much as you can on your credit card, and really if it’s that bad, don’t put anymore on your credit card, use a debit card.
Counseling help – When you are completely into debt and seek help through a counselor, you most likely are doing the right thing. Although, if you’re seeking help from someone that is charging you outrageous fees, and fees right up front, there may be something wrong with this situation. Find someone you can trust, and someone that will help you before you give them your money.
There’s always bankruptcy – Don’t begin to think of that for the easy way out. If you are, why are you giving up? There is always another solution. Bankruptcy won’t guarantee you happiness and relief, instead it can cause more stress due to a house being taken away, a car, and your property, so think again. Not to mention, you’ll have awful credit for years to come.
As you can see, there are a few strategies that people tend to take for help and/or relief. If you’re in debt and you’re looking for help, be sure to avoid these strategies above. They will most likely hurt you in the long run, and right now you’re look for support, not more stress!
