Holidays can be tough when you’re in debt but that shouldn’t stop you when you’re looking to get gifts for your family and relatives. There are a few tips you can follow in order to purchase the things you want on a limited budget. Don’t let debt stop you from enjoying the holidays.
Get a holiday job – The first thing I can’t stress enough is by getting a holiday job. So many places are hiring temporary help. This is a great way to jump on board and work 20 or so hours a week. Even if you’re getting this job to buy holiday gifts, this isn’t a problem at all! Just because you have a nice 9-5 job, it doesn’t mean a retail job should be above your head.
Set up a budget – Before you even do your shopping, write down who you want to buy gifts for. Don’t buy for third cousins and distant relatives. Instead, stick with people you see often. You don’t have to buy for your whole family! Write down every name you want to buy for and think of how much you want to spend on each name. I wouldn’t spend no more than $30 on relatives.
Don’t overspend – When you write down your names, write down a price next to them. Don’t spend more than what you wrote down. If you write down $25 next to your nephew’s name. Don’t spend more than $25. You’ll find that when you overspend, you’ll spend a lot more than expected.
Shop on sales- There are so many deals and sales when it comes to shopping during the holiday season. If you can, use great services online like PriceGrabber.com where you can compare items. Don’t just go to the first place you stop at and buy that product. Instead, if you want to buy a board game, check out the price online. If the Internet beats it, buy it. If not, get it at the store. Make sure you factor in shipping when buying online. A lot of places will give you free shipping. It all depends on the retailer.
Dealing with debt relief is fairly easy if you can follow a plan. Don’t forget that it’s a lot easier on yourself if you bring in more money. If you can work that extra 20 hours a week for that extra $200 or so, it will really add up. Just think of working for gifts. It not only will add no more debt, it’ll make you feel a lot better!
