How to cook on a budgetWhether you’re on a tight budget or you’re looking to save money in other ways each and every month, I’m going to show you how you can save a lot of money by cooking simple meals at home for a very low price.

Start by growing a garden

If you don’t have a garden yet, it’s time to start growing one.  You can grow every vegetable imaginable and it only takes a little bit of time each day to maintain it.  I know it’s hard to manage one in the winter time but it’s definitely worth it in the summer months.  If you’re unsure of growing a garden, you may want to look at BackYardGardener.com, it will help you with all the vegetables you may want to grow.

Always look for sale items

No matter where you shop, always look for items on sale and make it a habit to buy only the things on sale.  When you do this, you’re going to find that you can’t be brand loyal.  Instead, learn to adapt to try new things out and cut your grocery bill by more than 50%.  If you’re having a hard time with coupons, try sites like TheGroceryGame.com and CouponMom.com.

Start cooking for a crowd

When you’re ready to prepare meals, cook for a crowd and leave room for leftovers.  This way, you’re getting two days out of the way per week.  If you’re going to cook steaks and potatoes, leave the extra steak for the next day and blend the steak with the pasta.  The ideas are endless.

Try the wholesalers

Experts say that if you have a family of four or more, you may find that you can save more money by shopping at a CostCo or Sam’s Club.  Since you buy things in bulk, you’re going to have to pay a little more at the time of the purchase but it’s going to last five times longer.  These trips are great for condiments, toiletries and more.

Do your research online

There are many budget related websites online that will give you great recipes.  Do searches for your budget related recipes.  If you want to cook steak for the night, type in “steak budget recipes” and see what they can come up with.  There are some great ideas for less than $10 that taste wonderful!

You shouldn’t have to spend more than $10 or so for a family of four when cooking a meal if you’re on a tight budget.  It sounds impossible but it can happen and yes, it will taste better than ramen noodles!  Do your research, take charge and save money today.
