Millions of us have debt, and it’s not a good feeling.  Although, if you’re one of them you must realize you don’t have to be in debt.  There are several ways to get out and to get out for good.  If you’re looking for tips on how to get out of debt, continue reading below.

How to Manage Your Debt:

Income: First of all, you need to figure out what your mean income is each month.  What is the average amount that you make?

Budget:  Once you have that figured out, you need to come up with a monthly budget.  How much is going to go to bills?  How much are you able to save, and how much can you use to pay off your credit cards?  When we say bills, we mean bills that you can’t avoid or lower like your mortgage, utilities etc.  Now write out on a piece of paper how much is going to each category.

Priorities:  Look at your budget and realize that your monthly bills that you can’t change are your first priority, you definitely don’t want to miss those.  Now, paying off your credit card bills should be second priority.  Following should be your spending cash, etc.  Get your priorities straight.  If you do that you will avoid bringing on more debt and get the debt you have already paid off.

Extra help:  If you feel like you can’t do this alone, talk to a friend, family member, or someone that deals with debt management for a living.  They may be able to point out everything you’re doing wrong and be able to get you back on the right foot.

Managing your debt isnt’ hard to do at all if you set your priorities straight, you continue working and you set a budget for each month.  If you can do this, you will have no problem paying off your debt.  You just need to realize the difference between what you want and what you need!

Millions of people have debt and a bad credit score.  A bad credit score is usually thought of if it’s lower than 600.  Once you hit the 500′s you’re sinking into the bad credit zone which will cause problems with getting a good rate, and getting approved for loans.  If you want to avoid having this happen to you, find out how you can avoid a bad credit score as much as possible.

How to Avoid Bad Credit:

  • Always make sure you pay your bills on time.  If you start making your payments late, your score will drop drastically and your number will be in the red zone instead of green where you want it to be.
  • Never go over your credit limit.  If your limit is a problem, make sure you pay down your card!
  • Don’t spend more than you make.  This sounds very obvious, but if people took that advice they wouldn’t be in debt in the first place!  If you don’t have the money, don’t spend it.  Try to stick with a debit card or cash as much as possible.
  • Avoid opening a ton of credit cards.  The more credit cards you have open the more debt you could potentially take on.  Which means this will look bad to people that you want to borrow money from.
  • Avoid closing your oldest accounts.  The longer you have credit cards open the better.  This can show people that you’re responsible if you manage it properly.  Getting rid of accounts shuts down your previous history which in a way can start you all over again.

Bad credit is something that can be easily avoided.  To start with, consider a few of the tips above, don’t do anything that could ruin your score, and spend within your means.  A bad credit score is something you definitely don’t want, so avoid it as much as possible.

How you can find a felon jobThis is a debt blog, I know, but when you’re looking to find work, and you’re trying to get out of debt, we all know that money = getting out of debt.  So, today’s question is how the heck do you find a job when you’re a felon?

If you thought it was hard to find a job with a clean slate, think about finding a job when you have a criminal record.  Is it the end of the world?  No!  Are a lot of employers going to frown upon you?  Yes they are, but this shouldn’t stop you.  I wanted to give you some pointers on how felons can get a job today.

  • Consider working online: Do you have an entrepreneur spirit?  If so, you may want to think about starting up your own business online.  When you’re your own boss, who’s going to control everything?  It’s going to be you.  There’s no rule on who, and who can’t start up a business.  As long as you can make money, and people come to you, you’re going to do good.  Consider setting up an e-commerce site, or maybe even a blog.
  • Think about the military: Depending on your felony, the military will more than likely consider you.  This is a great way to learn a good trade, and it will increase your chances of landing a gig when you get out serving.  Who knows?  You may like it enough to stay in there for life.  You’ll get great benefits, housing, and more.
  • Truck driving: Many truck driving companies will consider hiring felons.  You will have to check with particular companies, because many do vary when it comes to traveling with them.
  • Telemarketing: Telemarketing companies are usually pretty desperate to find people, and if you can prove to them that you can truly sell, then you can have a good chance to stick with the company.
  • Temp agency: Need work today?  Head down to a temp agency, and they should be able to set you up with a gig.  These usually are grunt jobs, where you’ll do extensive labor work for a low price.

You’re going to find out that yes, it’s going to be a little harder, but this is isn’t always the case.  Work hard, and don’t give up.  There are plenty of jobs for everyone out there, regardless of what the media says!

Tax deductions 2009The tax season is fast upon us, and it’s time to file those taxes.  What you’re going to find out is that there are many deductions that you’re going to skip over.  This is why I highly recommend software packages such as TurboTax, if you’re not going to use a professional service.

Now, let’s take a look at the simple deductions that you can make this tax season to save you some big money on your tax return.

Interest: Yes, interest can be written off.  Whether you have a mortgage, or maybe a home equity loan.  Things such as those, as well as student loans can be written off on your tax return.

Charities: Did you donate to Goodwill, or maybe give to a good cause?  Both cash, and non-cash contributions can be written off.  You will want to make sure that you have written proof, as the government may ask for it, if you do get audited.

Your business: If you’re self employed, or maybe you run your business out of your home, you will find that you can write off little things such as your real estate taxes, rent, utilities, and more.  Your Accountant will most likely tell you that you will be able to write off a “portion” depending on how much of your house is used for an office.

Mileage: If you’re driving for anything business related, you should be sure to mark it down.  You can get reimbursed for each mile driven.  For example, I own a few condos, and every time I had to drive out to either fix something, or show the condo off, I was able to write this trip off on my taxes.

It’s always important to meet with a professional, because you can’t get all of the advice on the Internet.  Be sure to check and see what kind of deductions that you can get, and always remember that you want to be honest, and accurate when filing your taxes to avoid any further troubles!
