Protecting your credit card onlineMany people are shopping online today because products are cheaper. They find that it is very easy to shop from the comfort of their own home without having to travel to get to the stores. Shipping to your home is no longer a problem because many companies offer you shipping at a discount or free. The cost of the product is so much cheaper than what you find on the store shelf that paying a little bit for shipping is not a problem for most people.

All this seems like a great way to shop and you can do comparison shopping without the hassle of going from store to store. Many companies even offer you rebates or discount coupons that you can use when you are shopping making it even cheaper. What is the problem with online shopping? You are opening yourself up to hackers who can access your information. Many people are afraid of identity theft because of these hackers. This is really not as dangerous as it may seem because identity theft online is not as likely to happen as you may think.

Keeping yourself safe

One of the first things that you should be aware of is the company that you are doing business with. Make sure that you know them and they are a reliable company before you give them your credit card number. Most companies provide you with secure sites that you can put your information into without fear of anyone being able to access it. You need not worry if there is a lock on the website that you are about to put your credit card information on. When you know the company you should not have any fears about shopping with them. When you do not know the company then you should not give them your credit card information especially if it is attached to your bank account. There are several companies out there that you can use as a mediator for purchases. One of the best of those companies is Pay Pal or Payoneer.  These companies provide you with a secure card that you can use and you can make the transaction in a secure manner. The transaction code that they give you will only be good for a one time transaction which is a great protection for you.

Know the facts about websites

When you are shopping online always check out the website before you give them your information.  First look at the URL of the page that you are on. Make sure the URL reads https not http. Never enter your credit card into a website unless it reads this way. Make sure there is a closed padlock on the page. If you find that the website starts with a bunch of numbers then leave the website immediately as this is normally a scamming site. You can protect yourself while shopping on line actually better than if you are shopping in public.

Use your credit card wisely and budget your money. You can do both and find that your income goes much farther than you thought that it would. There is no need to have an excessive amount of credit cards in order to buy everything you feel that you need. You should only have one card two at the most. Use your credit card wisely by not over spending. When you do make a purchase try not to spend more than you can pay back in the same month. Sometimes you need to say “NO”! If you find that you cannot pay for it do not buy it. In most cases you should only charge things that you absolutely need. You might need to get your car fixed and it is before payday. You need it repaired in order to get to work and do other errands. This is a very necessary expenditure indeed but you do not have enough ready cash. Then it is perfectly acceptable to use your charge card. You can pay the bill when you get your paycheck. You see a pair of adorable shoes that are marked 10% off and you will just die if you do not get them. Then as they say, “die” it is better than “debt.”

Make a budget that you can live by and write down everything that you have spent. You should write down everything that you pay cash and everything that you charge. When you look at your budget and compare it to what you have spent see if your expenditures are out of line according to your budget. You should make a new budget after you compared your spending to make it compatible to your needs not your wants. You should stick to the budget in order to start a savings plan. When you have successfully made a budget that you can stick too then work on putting a savings in that budget. You should try to save a portion of your paycheck every payday. You should also start making investments with your savings in order to make that savings account grow. When you find that you are charging less and saving more then you can feel very confident that you have your life in control. You will be able to have money for emergencies and no need to depend on that charge card. You can use credit to your advantage when you make a budget to save.

Some say that a recession is bad but others say we should all take advantage of it.  Why should we take advantage?  Well, while a lot of businesses are trying to stay afloat, they have no choice but to lower prices to compete with their competitor down the street.  What does this mean for you?  It means that you can find better deals and it may be time to buy something that you truly need but also keep in mind that you should always put debt first in front of entertainment.

Know what you need:  Before you go out and bargain hunt, know what you need.  Don’t purchase things that you don’t want because it’s going to collect dust in your closet.  This is the time to look for things that you can use like appliances, furniture and more.

Research online:  If you know what you’re going to get before you go shopping, go online to price comparison websites like PriceGrabber.com.  These sites will enable you to compare products from many different vendors.  A majority of the time, you won’t find a better deal anywhere else outside of the Internet but this isn’t always the case.

Hunt for coupons:  I don’t care what you’re buying, always look for a coupon!  Even if it sounds like it won’t have one, you’ll be surprised at what’s out there.  It’s also a good idea to find competitor ads and bring them in because some stores will beat them by 10% or more.

Bargain with them:  If you’re buying a bigger item such as a TV or Dishwasher, always try to get a better deal.  It’s never going to hurt to ask.  Tell them that you’re extremely interested and would only buy if they knock off 5-10%.  You’ll be amazed at how many times this works.  The worst thing they can say is no.

Even when there isn’t a recession, there are always deals to be found.  Use your head and do your homework when it comes to buying anything.  As long as you do your homework, you’ll find a great deal.

Solving credit problemsWhen you find that your credit score is low and it seems to stem from the report received from your credit card issuer then you need to know what things can cause this to happen. What is your outlook on how you budget your money? Look at the method you use to pay your bills. Take out some time to determine your current situation financially.

Credit Card Problems

  • Slow payment causes interest rates to go higher
  • Slow payment causes you to incur higher fees
  • Skipping a payment makes your bill higher
  • Skipping payments reported makes your credit score go lower
  • Accepting a credit card that charges a high rate of interest may make you unable to pay your bill on schedule.

Credit Card Issuers

  • Locate issuers that will give you 0% interest rate for the first year
  • Locate issuers that will give you a cheap annual membership fee
  • Locate issuers that are willing to forgo interest if you pay within the allotted time
  • Locate issuers that are willing to give you perks along with great rates

You as the customer

  • Make sure that you are not abusing your credit card by charging more than is necessary
  • Only charge for items that you need and can pay for within the month
  • Select a credit card that does not have a high rate of interest
  • Watch your income and your budget to make sure that they are in balance with one another

When you understand that most credit card problems stem from the fact that we are often inclined to charge more than our budget allows us to pay. That most credit card companies are in business to make money so it costs to have a credit card. The use of your card is not a free service so make sure that you can afford your card.  Use your card very wisely! Keep only one or two credit cards never apply for and receive too many credit cards. This policy only hurts your credit score, gets you farther into debt, and makes your budget way out of scope. In other words do not borrow more than you can pay.

Now when you find that your credit is causing you problems lowering your score and you’re constantly in debt then you should take a serious look at your spending habits and change your methods.

When you find that you are being overwhelmed by telephone calls and other sources of harassment techniques then it is time to consider debt settlement. Many times those notices and telephone calls are from debt settlement companies who are willing to make arrangements. You should be prepared to discuss a pay arrangement and when you do come to a satisfactory arrangement make sure that the company puts it in writing and sends you a copy of the agreement.

You should be aware that a lot of these companies make offers to your creditors to satisfy unsecured debts for significantly less than you owe and then they keep the difference. In order to do this they may make what you owe even higher by adding excessive fees. This makes your repayment even costlier. That is why you can negotiate with the company in order to get a good payment agreement. The company knows that if they do not make an arrangement that they could lose lot on the deal therefore they are more than willing to negotiate.  There are many things involved with debt settlement. Some of the firms actually front load their fees keeping them before they pay your creditors. You should recognize these factors before you make any payment agreement.

The effect of using a debt settlement company can be just as devastating as the bill collectors who harass you. Many times the debt settlement companies will hold back your payments and the lenders tack on interest and fees for late payments causing your credit score to sink even lower. If you are not careful your lenders can sue you for delinquent debt while you are still waiting for the debt settlement company to make payments for you.

Many people prefer to make their own debt settlement rather than using the services of a debt settlement company.  Think positive if you can’t settle your own debts then there is no way that a debt settlement company can do it. You need to first make yourself a budget that you know that you can honestly live with. Then you need to call up each creditor and explain your circumstances briefly and that you have all intentions of making payments. Normally someone on staff who is in charge of making arrangements will work with you. Most companies prefer to get the debt settled even if they have to cut their fees.  You will find that when you do your own negotiating that you get a much better response and you are able to pay your bills in a timely manner improving your credit score
